Giants of Finley Creek: Skeletons Unearthed Near Ozark MO.

In February 1900, a startling discovery emerged from the bluffs of Finley Creek, just two miles north of Ozark. Local resident Bruce McCord was clearing a small cave to create a cellar when his work uncovered something extraordinary beneath layers of limestone and six inches of earth.

There lay two human skeletons—one a true giant at seven feet long, its skull massively thick and oversized. The bones remained perfectly articulated and well-preserved in place, though they crumbled quickly upon exposure to air. Beside it rested a second skeleton of ordinary stature, positioned near what seemed a shared ancient bed.

Locals immediately pegged the remains as Indian relics, pointing to a known Delaware burying ground two miles west on Finley Creek. That site had already yielded numerous bones and artifacts over the years, marking the area as a hotspot for prehistoric burials.

McCord's accidental excavation added another chapter to Ozark's mound-and-cave mysteries—a seven-foot sentinel preserved in stone, whispering of a taller race that once walked these Missouri bluffs.
